2018年1月6日雅思大作文解析

今年第一场雅思的大作文考了一道很经典的题目：“It is a good thing for those in the senior management position to have much higher salaries than other workers in the same company or organization. To what extent do you agree or disagree?”同一家公司或组织的高管得到比其他员工更高的薪酬是一件好事，同意还是不同意？

Lily老师在课上分享这道考题时，悲伤地发现很多同学对于“senior”这个词的理解仅限于“老年人”，而且不知道“management position”是什么意思，结果把这道题理解为“同一家公司或组织里的老年员工应该比青年员工获得更高的薪酬是一件好事”😢 1月13号的大作文中也出现了一个有难度的单词“subsidize”（v. 补贴），对于同学们来说是一个警示，在平时多下功夫，提高词汇量。

对于那些看懂题目的同学，Lily老师再次悲伤地发现很多人在论述这道题目的时候存在跑题的嫌疑。大家在brainstorm的时候提出了不错的见解，比如高管比其他员工承受更多的压力，需要更多的才能，所以应该得到更高的工资。但是请注意，题目问的是这是不是一件好事(It is good to…)，而不是高管应不应该得到更高的工资（should be paid higher…）。因此，这篇文章的重点应该放在给高管更高的工资会带来哪些好处或者问题。再次提醒同学们，审题的时候一定要仔细，不要草草看完题目马上开始写，而是要注意题目当中的每一个关键词。

下面，我们来积累一下和企业、薪酬、领导和员工相关的表达：

senior management position可以替换成executives, superiors; other workers可以替换成ordinary employees, subordinates; high salaries可以替换成pay/provide high income/remuneration; devote time and energy to work; bear excessive pressure and responsibilities for setting goals, making decisions and coping with crises; an approval of their efforts and abilities; boost company performance; manage business affairs;  ensure a healthy and sound operation of the company in the fierce market competition; high-end, scarce talents; require outstanding educational background, experience and comprehensive abilities (leadership, decision-making, etc.); deserve the higher pay= are qualified to receive generous salary

那么给高管更高的工资究竟有哪些好处和问题呢？

好处一：肯定高管的付出，鼓励他们对公司做出更大的贡献（affirm the achievements of top executives, motivate them to make more contributions to the company）。

好处二：作为一种实质性的鼓励，激励普通员工努力工作（a tangible benefit, an incentive for ordinary employees to work harder, increase working efficiency and excel in their work）。

问题一：可能会让普通员工觉得不公平，丧失工作的成就感，从而导致公司留不住人才，不利于企业的长远发展（feel unfair, work overtime frequently and their working hours are even longer than their superiors, lose a sense of achievement in their work, the company can hardly retain talents and thus might fall into a decline in a long run.）。

这道题目中的一些观点同样适用于其他关于应不应该支付更高薪酬的题目，比如：

1. Successful sports professionals can earn a great deal more money than people in other important professions. Some people think this is fully justified while others think it is unfair. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

2. It is right that college graduates earn higher salaries than the less well-educated in the community. Do you agree or disagree with this statement?
